Most popular songs in Ghana 2017: You strongly agree with me that entertainment is incomplete without music. This is because music speaks to and refreshes the soul, be it for fun, pleasure, advise etc.

Music plays a vital role in a country’s merchandise export, and in some cases, contribute immensely to a country’s GDP. Music in Ghana is done purposely for passion, fun, pleasure, and money.

‘One corner’, ‘Odo’, ‘Taking over’, among other hits were some of the most popular songs in Ghana 2017.

 1.  ‘One corner’ – Patapaa – ‘ONE CORNER’ by Patapaa was the song of the year 2017 regardless.                         Justice Amoah shot to fame as ‘Patapaa’ had the biggest song in 2017 with ‘ONE CORNER’. The song catapulted from Ghana to other parts of the world and stayed on music charts for over six months. The song which had no video at the time came with a new dance called “the one corner dance”.

The “One Corner dance” triggered Chris Brown and some other celebrities in Africa to join the trend. The song created so many controversies and had almost everyone talking about it and its immediate consistent penetration.  ‘ONE ’CORNER‘ was the breakthrough hit for Patapaa.

2.   ‘Odo’ – Kidi – Kidi’s ‘ODO’ was released right after his smash hit single ‘Say you love me. The song, since its release, stayed on music charts for almost 4 months. ‘Odo’ was among a few other songs which penetrated the Nigerian music market in 2017.

 

3.  ‘Taking Over’ – Shatta Wale – Shatta wale released ‘TAKING OVER’ featuring the militants in 2017 and it did magically marvellous as it took over the airwaves for no reasons. The song topped all the music charts in Ghana for a couple of months.

The song was streamed across all divide, talk of the clubs, the streets, event grounds, radio and Tv shows, and all digital platforms, making it one of the most popular songs in Ghana 2017.

4.   ‘Angela’ – Kuami Eugene – ‘ANGELA’ was big! It was one of the most popular songs in Ghana 2017. The song which was released in September 2017 got all the attention and almost halted all the hit songs banging at the moment.

Angela was Kuami Eugene’s breakthrough song which propelled him to win the New artiste of the year at the 2018 VGMA’s.

5.   ‘Grind day’ Kwesi Arthur B.E.T nominee and hip pop star,  Kwesi Arthur’s breakthrough happened when he dropped his first Professional single “GRIND DAY” in 2017. It was the biggest hip-pop song in 2017.

 

6.  ‘Total cheat‘ – Fancy Gadam – ‘Total cheat’ was one of the most popular songs in Ghana 2017. The song which employed sarkodie, was able to cut across all Regions and everyone jammed to it, it got massive airplay and enjoyed lots of digital streaming and downloads.

The song won two awards at the 2018 VGMA’s, the most popular and hip life song of the year.

 

7.   ‘Bronya‘ – Wutah – ‘Bronya’ by Ghanaian music duo Wutah was one of the biggest high life songs of the year 2017. The song is a typical palm wine high life song, and it was their first come back hit after almost 4 years since they parted ways.

The song had about 4 nominations at the VGMA’s. Wutah won best group of the year, 2017 with ‘Bronya’

8.   ‘Oh Yeah’ – King Promise – ‘Oh Yeah’ was one of the biggest Afropop songs in Ghana 2017. The song which was released in the third quarter of 2017 was the talk of the town and the song of the moment, it was one of the most played songs on air and most-streamed songs in 2017.

The song was nominated in the 2018 VGMA Afropop song of the year category. ‘Oh yeah’ was one of the most popular songs in Ghana 2017.

9.   ‘Bawasaba’ – Stonebwoy – ‘Bawasaba’ was released in the last quarter of 2017 and it was one of the monster hits in 2017. The song caught everyone’s attention due to its trend and the groove instrumentation it carries. Stonebwoy won the VGMA dancehall ariste of the year for the 4th time.

10.  ‘Freedom’ – Shatta waleI’m pretty sure everyone enjoyed ‘Freedom’ in the year 2017, and even in the first quarter of 2018. Shatta released this song in the last quarter of 2017, although a lot criticized the song, it still reigned and enjoyed quite extensive air plays in and across the country. It was one of the most popular songs in Ghana 2017

Shatta wale won the best collaboration of the year at the 2018 VGMA’s.
