Go to court if you like – FDA tells angry Ghanaian celebrities over ban on alcoholic beverages advertisement

The Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) has advised angry Ghanaian celebrities who feel that the government’s decision to ban celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages is not right, to go to court.

The ban which prevents celebrities from advertising alcoholic beverages was instituted in 2015, and according to the FDA at the time, was in adherence to a World Health Organisation policy.

Many Ghanaian celebrities including Wendy Shay, Shatta Wale, and others who claim have been affected by the ban, raised concerns for it to be lifted but the Food and Drugs Authority stood its grounds.

In an interview with Accra FM’s Nana Romeo, a spokesperson of the FDA said, anybody who feels unsatisfied over the ban placed on alcoholic beverages advertisement can go to court and seek redress.

When asked if anybody has toed that path yet, the FDA spokesperson said, NO.
