Veteran music producer and President of the Ghana Creative Arts Council, Mark Okraku Mantey has revealed his ex-girlfriend broke up with him because he was a DJ.
According to him, being a DJ at that time was not attractive or respected as it is now.
“I lost a relationship because the person said I was a DJ and I wasn’t going to be someone better in the future,” he said on Hitz FM’s Daybreak Hitz show.
The veteran producer made these comments after the 2020 Ghana DJ Awards held on Saturday, November 21 witnessed a massive attendance and reception.
Mr Mark Okraku Mantey edged that DJs and people in the art space work hard to change the narrative.
“That’s why we have to do well to remove that aspect that it’s a hopeless job and for outcasts. We must beautify it so we can be proud like the footballers.”
“Today people want their kids to marry footballers but when we were young it wasn’t so,” he said.
The president of the Ghana Creative Arts Council further advised DJs to work hard to change the perception of their craft and create a brand for themselves.
Stressing that if DJs and people in the art scene work hard to change the narrative, It will make the job more lucrative and encourage young creatives as well.
