Ghanaian musicians for sometime now are beginning to lose hope in their own music industry and some have even regretted choosing a career in music.
Legendary highlife musician, Akwasi Opoku popularly known as Kwaisey Pee has tread on the same path as he vows to totally disown his son should he decide to pursue music as a career in Ghana.
In an interview on Ghone tv, Kwaisey Pee expressed his bitterness of the current happenings in the entertainment sector particularly music.
Owing to improper infrastructure and carelessness of some key decision making bodies of the music sector, Kwaisey told Regina Vanhelvert he will never allow his son to do music in ghana since individuals trusted with the mandate to steer affairs of musicians failed woefully.
Adding to that, the legendary highlife musician stated one cannot pursue music in ghana as a full time career and be successful, henceforth, does not factor why he should allow his son quest after music when making earns meat will become a problem.
“One cannot do music in ghana and be successful and even if the person is successful it means he/she has a business on the side fetching them money and not music”, he said.
Expressing his opinion on why he strongly believes musicians in ghana are not making money, Kwaisey Pee disclosed that in just a decade past, produced records were cataloged in shops and distributed across the country and musicians are paid very well right after sales but now people don’t buy anymore like they used to and so making money from music now is difficult.
However, he emphatically expressed should his son insist on taking up music as a career in Ghana, he will disown him forever.
