Justin Timberlake, Celebrities send messages of support to Britney Spears after conservatorship court speech

Celebrities have been sending their support to Britney Spears after she spoke in court about the “abusive” conservatorship arrangement that controls her life.

Britney’s claims in the LA court included that she is being forced to use birth control against her will, stopping her from having a baby with her boyfriend and that her medication was switched without her knowledge.

Her father is one of those who have power in the guardianship agreement – which has been in place since she had mental health problems in 2008.

Britney’s ex-boyfriend, Justin Timberlake is among a number of celebrities who have posted messages of support on Twitter, saying he and his wife Jessica Biel were sending their “love and our absolute support”.

Although some fans hit out at the singer, who’s been criticised by some for the way he acted towards Britney in the past.

“Regardless of our past, good and bad, and no matter how long ago it was… what’s happening to her is just not right,” said Timberlake in a series of posts.

“No woman should ever be restricted from making decisions about her own body.

“No one should ever be held against their will… or ever have to ask permission to access everything they’ve worked so hard for.”

Mariah Carey tweeted “We love you, Britney!!! Stay strong” – and her message has been liked more than 316,000 times.

Reality TV star Khloe Kardashian posted: “No one should be treated like this. Stay strong Queen!! You deserve better #FreeBritney.”

Singer Halsey was another celebrity to call for the 39-year-old to have full control of her life again.

She tweeted: “Bless Britney and I hope with my whole heart she is awarded freedom from this abusive system. She deserves it more than anything. I admire her courage speaking up for herself today.”

Actress and activist Rose McGowan said Britney had “every right to be angry”.

“How would you feel if your life was stolen, dissected, mocked? I pray she gets to live her life on her terms. STOP CONTROLLING WOMEN. #FreeBritney,” she posted.

Meanwhile, Ireland’s Jedward twins also spoke up for the 39-year-old, posting “Proud of Britney #FreeBritney” and claiming her father had “held her prisoner for years”.

It wasn’t the first time she had spoken in court in her bid to end the conservatorship, but previous hearings have always been held in private.

Jamie Spears and his lawyers say his daughter remains vulnerable to fraud and manipulation and that he saved her from financial ruin.
